On the Tuesday of National School Sport Week, five schools attended an eagerly anticipated Street Dance workshop that was hosted by Clapham & Patching School in the Village Hall. The Year 3 and 4 children were eager to get going,
and assisted by their staff and led by the dance instructors they soon set about getting to grips with a series of moves to provide the basis of their dance.
With the sounds of McFly’s “One Way or Another” (that’s Blondie to all you aged folk out there!) blasting out, they mastered them pretty quickly in their school groups, and then began to alter and tweak them to put their own slant on
them. Before long the groups were “freestyling” and developing their own ”add-ons” to finish their dances, which in some cases involved twists, flips, spins and intricate dance steps, before ending with a stylized group pose.
The schools then all performed their dances, which were all incredibly good, to the other dancers and the watching spectators.
Many thanks go to the Clapham & Patching, supporting staff and the dance instructors for making it such an enjoyable and worthwhile afternoon.
