Mr Galvin has surprised us by stating, “We should do less sport at our school!” After we got over the shock, we decided to find out how much sport we actually do at our school.
This year we have taken part in over 70 sporting events in only 39 weeks. On top of this we do football, netball, tag rugby & running clubs. Most of our pupils also find an interest in clubs run by outside agencies.
The only school that has taken part in more sporting events than us is Georgian Gardens, this is only because they got through to the finals. As we are only a small school this is a huge achievement & gives our children many different opportunities to shine. Winning is a rare achievement, but does it matter if we win? This is what Alex & George thought about the matter. “It doesn’t matter if we win, just as long as we have fun.”
However we have won a few sporting events, such as the Small Schools Football Champions and matches of every sport we participated in.
Around 98% of key-stage two said “Sport rules!” also, only one child stated that she agreed with Mr Galvin. This survey proves that Mr Galvin cannot reduce the amount of sport in St John’s. As for winning….yes it is great when we do, and we celebrate like no other school, but sport is about winning and losing!
